About
Objective:
The Virtual California Space Education Center (CSEC) is a research, education, and workforce-related online space learning collaborative that sponsors and features content from real-world space-related education and STEM outreach programs. Today's youth (and the young at heart) are increasingly using "participatory" Internet tools to create their own content and news online, interact within virtual communities, and share information via peer-created blogs, videos, and social networking websites. The CSEC seeks to use these types of tools to attract young people to science, technology, engineering, and mathematics (STEM).
The CSEC sponsors, develops content for, and provides outreach programs coordinated by CSEC staff. CSEC programs are unique because of their web-based interactive nature and link with real-world projects that allow students to become virtual project partners. The California Space Education and Workforce Institute (CSEWI), the home port for the CSEC, coordinates two projects with the NASA Centennial Challenges program. They are the 2008 Regolith Excavation Challenge, and the 2008 Moon Regolith Oxygen Extraction (MoonROx) Challenge. These have been designated as CSEC projects, and will be featured on the virtual CSEC site.

Desired Outcomes:
- To effectively communicate with and inspire youth to become actively involved in activities related to science, technology, mathematics, and engineering (STEM), and career and technical education (CTE).
- With the support of Corridor partners, identify, sponsor and feature designated CSEC programs on its website.
- Sponsor, feature content and provide outreach for web-based "participatory" STEM and CTE programs.
