About
Objective: The Teacher Certification Assistance Program of Troops to Teachers project establishes a pilot program to address the critical shortage of math and science teachers in the California Innovation Corridor. It is designed to assist mid-career changers and retirees in the science, math, and engineering fields to become public school teachers in both academic and vocational subjects. To this end, SEARCH will provide certification advising and counseling, test preparation support options, job referral and placement assistance, and guidance on accessing financial assistance. Desired Outcomes: - Use the Troops to Teachers model to target and recruit 20 engineers and scientists into math and science teacher positions. - Create a sustainable and replicable model to entice retiring scientists inclined to "give back," and provide an avenue to do so. This can bring greater content relevance into the classrooms and greater engagement of students in STEM coursework and STEM career fields.
