3.7 Deliverables
Objective: Certificated Software Development Training Program Training program for unemployed software developers and others interested in software development training for positions in aerospace and defense. The Dislocated Software Specialists project was an industry-driven pilot training program designed to retrain dislocated software engineers for space-related information technology positions. Each course ran over a four month period and consisted of an intensive certification program that could handle up to 28 software engineers. Upon completion, students were eligible to apply for positions in the aerospace and defense industries. An advisory panel of industry specialists offered input and participation in the process of curriculum development to optimize successful employment. NOVA recruited and screened prospective participants and provided them with ongoing support and job search assistance. Participants had access to NOVA's job search workshops and resources. NOVA additionally had responsibility for management of a subcontract with UCSC Extension. 27 participants (2 cohorts) were recruited, screened, and enrolled. All 27 participants successfully completed the certificate. 20 have attained employment with Lockheed, BAE, other firms. Average hourly wage was $45 / hr. Desired Outcomes: - Develop an innovative training program to transition laid-off software engineers into space-related information technology positions. - 28 students will complete the training program. - Students will be placed in a space-related company utilizing the skills learned in the program.
