Innovation for Aerospace and Space Exploration Video Conferencing Seminar Spring Session 2008 Fall Session 2008
Objective: Pilot programs for professorial and graduate student internship to explore innovation and entrepreneur environment and provide seminars on results. Goal was to establish professionals and graduate students to have short internships in industry and government laboratories that have developed a highly innovative working environment. Task would be closely coordinated with Stanford University as the lead. Stanford and UCR were to appoint small teams of faculty, industry professionals and students to spend a short internship (3-5 days) as observers in the R&D environment. Teams would meet after each internship session to record observations. Groups would serve 2-4 internships over a three month period. Team would then work together to put a seminar or seminar sessions together to present in both the public and academic community within three months of the last internship. Seminars would be presented in Northern and Southern California to disseminate findings and formulate recommendations on best practices and steps that could accelerate the pace of commercializing innovation. The objective was to build an understanding of effective practices for how innovation is encouraged and commercialized. Desired Outcomes: The objective was to build an understanding of effective practices for how innovation is encouraged and commercialized. It was anticipated that the successful completion would result in greater job creation and economic opportunity as a result of increased innovation of new technological concepts.
This collaborative effort realized a bringing together of a unique set of players, the sharing of technologies and innovative ways to partner and leverage resources, and the remote sharing of information. This task, through the teams involved with interning at R&D facilities, with will bring new knowledge to the Innovation Corridor and hopefully would expect to be adopted by companies in the Corridor to increase their innovation output.
