About
Objective: The Manufacturing Technologist Certificate Program is dedicated to the development of an industry-driven community college manufacturing technician training program. The project will be responsible for: running industry focus groups; developing curriculum with certificates; developing support and referral mechanisms; attracting students and workers; training; program results and evaluation; and dissemination. It will also identify and train technicians for production-level jobs whose salaries allow for a high quality of life in California. To better fulfill the needs of companies in the California Innovation Corridor, the project will also focus on job creation and retention, thereby ensuring a stable workforce and a greater economic multiplier effect. Desired Outcomes: - A comprehensive, industry-driven analysis and validation of accurate workforce assessment methods, for the development of an incremental certification process in manufacturing. Includes existing programs such as the Manufacturing Skills Standards Certification (MSSC), the National Institute of Manufacturing Skills (NIMS), and the Society of Manufacturing Engineers (SME). - Develop a 360-hour certified manufacturing technology curriculum for students and entry-level and displaced workers. - Develop a student/trainee retention program utilizing ongoing student support services, including tutoring, counseling, mentoring, and financial aid. - Disseminate and promote project outcomes for the replication of the 21st Century Manufacturing Technology Certificate program throughout the Corridor by industry, and through the California Community Colleges' Economic Development Program and its network of Centers for Applied Competitive Technologies.
