2.4 Deliverables
Objective: Develop and launch an Industry Driven Community College Manufacturing Technician Training Program. El Camino developed a certification level training curriculum and held two (2) training sessions for a 21st Century Aerospace Manufacturing Technician. The manufacturing technician curriculum was an intense full-time not-for-credit job training program designed to teach relevant mechanical assembly skills applicable to aircraft structures with an emphasis on composite structures assembly. As part of the deliverables for the project, El Camino performed industry research by conducting surveys and holding focus groups with industry representatives throughout the country. From the gathered information, El Camino developed and provided 360 hours of training for 36 trainees. Of those trainees, 29 have been placed in aircraft structures positions at aircraft airframe manufacturers in Southern California. Desired Outcomes: - A comprehensive, industry-driven analysis and validation of accurate workforce assessment methods, for the development of an incremental certification process in manufacturing. Includes existing programs such as the Manufacturing Skills Standards Certification (MSSC), the National Institute of Manufacturing Skills (NIMS), and the Society of Manufacturing Engineers (SME). - Develop a 360-hour certified manufacturing technology curriculum for students and entry-level and displaced workers. - Develop a student/trainee retention program utilizing ongoing student support services, including tutoring, counseling, mentoring, and financial aid. - Disseminate and promote project outcomes for the replication of the 21st Century Manufacturing Technology Certificate program throughout the Corridor by industry, and through the California Community Colleges' Economic Development Program and its network of Centers for Applied Competitive Technologies.
