Organization: The South Bay Workforce Investment Board (SBay-WIB) was created to promote a fully integrated workforce investment policy development process, forge partnerships among economic and community development agencies, and strive for continuous improvement to meet job seeker and employer needs. Its strategic economic and workforce investment goals are: to identify and provide on-going access to quality services that meet the current and future workforce needs of youth, job-seekers, and employers; to build business, education and community partnerships, which address the life-long education, training and employment needs of youth; to partner with economic development entities to create, retain, and expand businesses; to expand community awareness and support of workforce development issues, policies and initiatives; and to design and facilitate a framework for coordinating public policy impacting workforce development issues. SBay-WIB is a partner on three WIRED projects, listed below. Tasks: Project 1.2 - 21st Century Worker Profiles: - Assist partners in developing 21st Century job profiles in the Bio/Pharma, Bio/Info/Nano, and Biomedical Health fields. - Define the workforce skills issues within these industries, based on their projected futures. Project 2.4 - Manufacturing Technician Training Program: - With partners, conduct a comprehensive, industry-driven analysis and validation of accurate workforce assessment instruments, for the development of a sequential certification process in manufacturing. This will include programs such as Manufacturing Skills Standards Certification (MSSC), National Institute of Manufacturing Skills (NIMS), and the Society of Manufacturing Engineers (SME). - Develop a 360-hour certified manufacturing technology curriculum for students and entry-level and displaced workers. Project 3.1 - Workforce Analysis: - With partners, generate a minimum of 200 company responses to the project survey, and develop and publicize a final report of the survey results. - Develop strategies to address identified training and education gaps, and share strategies across the 9 regions and the entire Corridor.
