About
Organization: The San Bernardino County Workforce Investment Board/Employment Development Agency (SBer-WIB/EDA) is charged with addressing important workforce issues in the county. Its role is to convene meetings of appropriate parties around these issues, create dialogue among relevant parties, generate creative, innovative solutions through consensus, and enlist community commitments to action in order to achieve a competitive advantage. SBer-WIB/EDA has begun to engage other community leaders in carefully crafting strategies to identify and build these competitive advantages within each of the major regions in the county. These strategies will capitalize on industries that already exist, help broker innovative workforce solutions between the public and private sectors, engage business in the strategies needed for long-term workforce solutions, and in general, improve business investment in employment development. SBer-WIB/EDA is a partner on two WIRED projects, and is a supporter on one. Tasks: Project 1.2 - 21st Century Worker Profiles: - With partners, develop 21st Century job profiles in the Bio/Pharma, Bio/Info/Nano, and Biomedical Health fields. - Define the workforce skills issues within these industries, based on their projected futures. Project 1.3 - Inventory of Key Innovation Assets: - Identification and profiling of a minimum of 140 Innovation Assets (Federal and private Research and Development labs, military installations, college/university research centers and private companies). - Add the 140 profiles to Connectory.com. Design an economic development resource database tool (California Innovation Corridor Innovative Asset Portal) to house the 140 profiles, as a Corridor Portal. Project 3.1 - Workforce Analysis: - With partners, generate a minimum of 200 company responses to the project survey, and develop and publicize a final report of the survey results. - Develop strategies to address identified training and education gaps, and share strategies across the 9 regions and the entire Corridor.
