Organization:
The California branch of Mathematics Engineering Science Achievement (MESA) is a K-20 nonprofit academic program designed to support disadvantaged and underrepresented students in the fields of mathematics, science, and engineering. The program is based on a common co-curricular academic enrichment model that includes academic planning, community service, family involvement, academic enrichment, hands-on engineering activities, career advising, field trips, competitions and workshops. MESA programs also exist in Arizona, Colorado, Maryland, New Mexico, Oregon, Utah, and Washington, and pilot programs have been established in Florida, Georgia, Illinois, Missouri, Nevada, New Jersey, and New York. MESA is a partner on one WIRED project. Tasks:
Project 3.6 - High-School Teacher Institutes:
- As project lead, work with partners to recruit 150-225 teachers to participate and gain enriched skills, to motivate STEM students to higher levels of academic success. 20,000-30,000 students will be positively impacted by these improved instructor skills.
