About
Organization: The City of Lompoc is a General Law government for a population of approximately 44,000, located adjacent to Vandenberg Air Force Base in Santa Barbara County. Vandenberg AFB is the $1.7 economic engine driving the region and thus, the City partners with Vandenberg AFB and California Space Authority to grow commercial space and defense industry clusters in our region. Other growth industry clusters that have been identified in the Lompoc Valley include wine production and tourism, as well as Internet and entertainment, e.g. film production.
The Lompoc Valley is also poised to become a workforce training center with the relocation of Allan Hancock College fire, police and emergency services training academies to Lompoc Valley Center by 2011. The proposed California Space Center, which will be located in Lompoc Valley outside the gates of Vandenberg AFB, has attracted Dept. of Commerce Economic Development Administration funding to launch space-related workforce training activities. The City seeks to grow Lompoc Valley as a workforce training center for a variety of industries.
The City of Lompoc Economic Development Office promotes the community to retain and create jobs and otherwise enhance the quality of life for residents and businesses. Toward that end, the Office publishes the award-winning Lompoc Valley magazine, produces the award-winning Discover Lompoc TV program, organizes advertising campaigns and cultivates strategic partnerships. Lompoc is a partner on one of the WIRED Grant projects, listed below.
