Mother Lode of Stories

New York Sun editor John B. Bogart (1848 - 1921) is best remembered for his quote about what makes news. Bogart said, "When a dog bites a man that is not news, because it happens so often. But if a man bites a dog, that is news." Bogart's definition of what makes news is illuminating and we've got a Motherlode of Stories for you - see this article.

  • Getting Analysts to Help on Innovation Stories. Stanford University visiting scholar Niclas Lilja talks about the value of getting outside analysts to provide in-depth understanding to articles dealing on innovation. Analysts enhance a story by providing more depth, greater credibility with the public, and incentive for journalists to study a subject, project, or event in greater detail. The article is not directly related to the California Innovation Corridor but it does underscore the value reporters would find in talking to our experts involved in innovative applications statewide. The material here is great for journalists and policy makers who value the recognition of getting quotes and hard facts from credible sources in space, aerospace, academia, business, and workforce centers.

  • The Attraction to be Part of the STEM Inventory. The STEM Inventory is an on-line, user-friendly, STEM community built, searchable database of California and national STEM programs organized by grade level, geography and topic and targeted to students, STEM practitioners, teachers and parents. To showcase great programs, the STEM Inventory will highlight best practices amongst STEM programs, but the inventory aims to be inclusive of as many STEM programs as possible. To achieve this, the inventory relies on STEM program organizers to voluntarily enter their program's information via an on-line survey. Participation by STEM organizers is crucial; have your STEM program listed on the Inventory by visiting the address immediately below. The story material is great for journalists, policy makers in government and education, and other Corridor participants.
